Rotary Club has contributed more than $335,000 for SHARE Military Initiative since tournament’s inception

ATLANTA, July 6, 2015 – The Rotary Club of Brookhaven today announced that the Club and its members have contributed $100,000 to support the Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative through the 5th Annual Service Above Self Invitational golf tournament (, held May 11, 2015, at the Cherokee Country Club. The event has now contributed more than $335,000 to SHARE over the past five years.

Headline sponsors Consolidated Services, Inc., Choate Construction, Cunningham and Associates, and the Arthur and Ruth Lautz Foundation led the fundraising efforts for the tournament. Additional major level tournament sponsors included Crawford Media Services and UBS Financial Services.

“The Rotary Club of Brookhaven is honored to continue partnering with Shepherd Center to support such an important program in our community,” said Brookhaven Rotary president Tom Silveria. “It’s very gratifying to know that the funds raised at this tournament each year have a direct impact on the health and well-being of the soldiers who put their lives on the line each day for our country.”

“We are exceptionally grateful for the Rotary Club of Brookhaven and its continued support,” said Shepherd Center President and CEO, Gary R. Ulicny, Ph.D. “The SHARE program is largely dependent on donor funding and the Service Above Self Invitational plays an integral role in helping us to deliver the care that our service members and their families need.”

Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative, which began in 2008, provides rehabilitation care for military service members who have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder while serving during the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, over 310,000 service members have been diagnosed with mild TBIs since 2000, and they are considered to be the "signature injury" of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The SHARE program capitalizes on the expertise that Shepherd Center has developed in treating traumatic brain injuries and ensures that our wounded warriors receive the proper care in a timely fashion to enable their re-entry into civilian or military life. It provides a comprehensive curriculum, specifically tailored to meet the needs of each client, including complimentary housing, physical, occupational, vocational and speech therapy, life coaching, therapeutic recreation, and legal, financial and psychological counseling, among many other programs.
